Audition Information & Tips

Information

Auditions will take place Saturday, December 6th at Maple Ridge Church and Community Center from 10AM-11AM. All students will get a part in the show!

Cyn’s Tips

1. Be Prepared- have your song and be well rehearsed.
2. Make sure you are vocally and physically warmed up.
3. Pick a song that fits your character- know who you’re auditioning for.
4. Song does not have to be from Les Mis, just imagine if you were up against many other singers all doing “I Dreamed A Dream”
5. You will be asked to prepare 16 bars- so select a part of the song that shows your character, emotion and range.
6. Have sheet music for Dan, but be prepared to sing a cappella.
7. Being vocally strong is great but being able to tell the story with your emotions, is better, look for those moments in the music where you can pause, breathe, reflect, and look at the audience. Tell the story.
8. Be respectful of others auditioning: no talking, do applaud for them.
9. Be on time.
10. Think about how you’re dressed: Will you be remembered? Are you dressed somewhat in character? Reds are typically a great color because you stand out compared to beige or tan. Don’t wear something so busy that it distracts from your audition.
11. Have Fun- no matter what happens remember you’re great, so love the process and have fun.

FAQ

Who should I audition for?

If you don’t have a character in mind try: listening to the cast recording, watching the movie, looking up the characters online, or ask your friends!

What is “16 bars”?

A bar is the same thing as a measure in sheet music! If you’re not familiar with sheet music, bars/measures are marked by the vertical lines next to the notes. When you sing 16 bars of a song, its usually about 30-45 seconds.
